Small Mark, Big Difference: JUHAI Adds Housing Marking Pen to JH-09B for Faster, Error-Free Harness Assembly

DONGGUAN, China – A simple marking pen making a tiny dot on a plastic housing might not sound like advanced technology. But for wire harness assembly workers on a busy production line, that small dot can mean the difference between a correct connection and a costly mistake.
Housing marking

JUHAI Machinery has added an integrated housing marking pen to its JH-09B fully automatic crimping and insertion machine. The pen makes a synchronized down-press motion on a fixed position of the housing, leaving a small but permanent mark on one side of the connector.

This small addition to the automatic wire harness machine solves a surprisingly common problem: telling the front from the back of a housing.

The Problem: Blind Assembly

Many wire harness housings are symmetrical enough that they can be inserted in two orientations – but only one is correct. When production line workers pick up a finished harness, they often waste seconds checking which side is which. Even worse, they sometimes connect it backwards, causing field failures, warranty claims, and rework.

For Wire Harness automation to deliver its full value, every detail matters. A harness that is crimped perfectly but inserted backwards is still a defective product.

The Solution: One Dot, One Orientation

The JH-09B's housing marking pen makes a single dot on the same side of every housing, at the same position. The mark is applied immediately after the housing insertion station, before the finished assembly exits the machine.

From that point forward, any worker picking up the harness knows exactly which side faces up or forward. The Wire Processing Equipment produces not just terminated wires, but assemblies that are error-proofed for the next stage of manufacturing.

The Mechanism: Simple and Reliable

The marking pen mounts above the housing path after the insertion station. A small pneumatic cylinder synchronizes with the machine cycle. At the exact moment each housing passes underneath, the cylinder lowers the pen tip onto the housing surface, makes contact, and raises back up.

The entire motion takes less than 0.3 seconds and adds no measurable cycle time to the 400-450 cycles per hour that the JH-09B already delivers.

The pen uses fast-drying, solvent-resistant ink that adheres to common housing materials including nylon, PBT, and PA66. A single pen cartridge lasts for 50,000 to 100,000 marks before replacement.

User Benefits: Beyond the Factory Floor

The marking helps in three specific ways:

First, production workers assembling finished products into larger systems can immediately identify the correct orientation. Second, quality control inspectors can verify that harnesses were inserted correctly at the machine level. Third, field service technicians replacing a failed harness in a customer's equipment can see the mark and install the replacement correctly without referring to documentation.

For manufacturers building wire harness assembly lines for automotive, home appliance, or industrial control applications, this small feature reduces a surprisingly large source of assembly errors.

Customer Feedback

One early user of the JH-09B with the marking pen feature reported a 90% reduction in harness orientation errors during final assembly. The production supervisor noted that new temporary workers no longer needed to ask which side of the connector faced up – the dot told them.

Not Just for High Volume

While the marking pen is most valuable on high-volume wire harness machine lines, it also benefits low-volume, high-mix production. When operators frequently switch between different harness types, the consistent marking location provides a constant reference point regardless of the housing shape or color.

Integration with Existing Features

The marking pen works alongside the JH-09B's other standard features including forward CCD for wire sequence verification and side CCD for insertion depth detection. Together, these features make the insertion machine a complete solution for quality-focused harness manufacturers.

Availability

The housing marking pen is available as an optional feature on the JH-09B Automatic Terminal Crimping Machine and Automatic Housing Insertion Machine. The feature can be added to new machine orders or retrofitted to existing JH-09B units in the field.
